The company with the second largest solar roof in Colombia, and the first largest in the textile industry
We design our processes to be environmentally friendly and contribute to sustainability and energy efficiency. So a couple of years ago we began to work on a photovoltaic solar panel project, with the purpose of harnessing solar energy to use the radiation to generate electricity.
We thus welcomed in the year 2022 with our entry into the area of renewable energy. In this first stage, we installed a total of 1,050 panels on a 2,800 m2 roof, to generate 1.5% of the total power required by the plant. We are now beginning the second stage that will bring us up to approximately 2,700 panels. We are making advancements in pace with the latest technological developments in panels and inverters that can generate more power even on rainy or cloudy days, and in ongoing tracking of our contribution to protecting the environment.
Becoming self-generators of clean energy is a huge step into the future, strengthening sustainability at Lafayette and promoting our growth over time. We are convinced that not only are we preventing carbon emissions in this way, but we are also preserving ecosystems for the next 25 years (the useful life of the panels):
- The 1.5% we generate each year is equivalent to preserving 6,900 seedings, approximately 4,800 m2 of protected forest land, and plants and wildlife.
- It contributes to the fight against climate change by reducing CO2.
- We support these Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): #7 “Affordable and clean energy,” #13 “Climate action,” #14 “Life below water,” and #15 “Life on land,” making a significant contribution to the 2030 Agenda.
We will continue to evolve our manufacturing methods to diminish our carbon footprint and produce eco-friendly base fabrics that are, for example, biodegradable or made from yarn recycled from PET bottles, with low energy consumption.
We are commited to taking care of the planet and of society, leaving a positive environmental footprint, efficiently using energy, and working hard toward increasingly cleaner production with cutting edge technology and a focus on the planet’s resources.
